Mickleham Post-Entry Quarantine slot (PEBS)
Australia has a SINGLE quarantine facility (Mickleham, Melbourne). Book via the Post-Entry Biosecurity System. Slots fill MONTHS in advance. Book the slot BEFORE booking the flight — a slot you can't get matched is unrecoverable.

Mickleham stay is 10 or 30 days depending on identity verification
Pets that complete Australia's optional identity-check process are eligible for 10 days of post-entry quarantine. If the identity-check process is not fully completed, the pet must spend 30 days in post-entry quarantine.

What ruins Australia trips
- 1.Microchip must be implanted BEFORE the rabies vaccineAny rabies vaccination given before the microchip is INVALID — destination will reject it. If your pet was vaccinated first, you'll need to re-vaccinate AFTER microchipping. This is the #3 most common reason trips get reset.Source →
- 2.Don't let the rabies vaccine lapse — it invalidates the FAVNFor destinations that require continuous rabies coverage, even a 1-day lapse can invalidate the prior titer path. The replacement timeline is destination-specific: Japan counts 180 days from a new blood draw, Taiwan requires a sample 90–365 days before shipment, and Hawaii uses its own program clock.Source →
- 3.Australia order: BICON permit → Mickleham slot → flight"Book flight first" is the #1 unrecoverable Australia error. There's ONE quarantine facility for the entire country (Mickleham, Melbourne); slots fill months out. Permit and quarantine slot before flight, every time.
- 4.Australia accepts pets at MEL onlyPets MUST arrive at Melbourne. Landing in Sydney intending to connect to Melbourne does not work — the connection is blocked.
- 5.EU layovers need a transit-zone check, not an automatic certificateIf the route uses an EU or associated airport, confirm whether the pet remains in that airport’s international transit zone. Qualifying non-commercial pets that stay in-zone do not need an EU health certificate; commercial/unaccompanied movement or handling outside the zone may still require EU entry paperwork.Source →
