How a pet flies to Japan depends on the country's rules, not just the airline: some destinations require manifested cargo, and several accept pets only at specific airports. Confirm the cabin-or-cargo rule and the approved arrival airport before you book the flight.
Do not assume cabin, checked baggage, or cargo is available on your flight. Confirm the transport mode against the destination rules and the operating carrier’s policy for your species, breed, and route.
Dogs must enter through a designated airport or seaport. Examples include Narita, Haneda, Kansai, and Chubu; this is not the full list. For cats or assistance dogs using another port, contact Japan’s Animal Quarantine Service in advance.
